Numerous advances have been made by the instrumentation and applied acoustics research group (I2A2) of the Polytechnic University of Madrid regarding the underwater communications system.
The first version of the middleware has been developed which allows both local and remote connection to the acoustic modems, and provides a simple but robust interface for the clients.
Initial tests deployed remotely at the OBSEA observatory have been satisfactory, and a second version with more functionalities is already being worked on.
